If you run pasture based poultry and prefer them wandering the paddock to living in a shed, this is a low fuss opportunity to tidy up the boring but important stuff. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is running a free, practical half day workshop in Mount Barker that walks you through building a biosecurity plan that actually fits your place and shares sensible, easy ways to reduce the risk of diseases such as avian influenza. Expect plain English, useful resources and a bit of humour about keeping foxes and paperwork under control.

You'll leave with a first draft of your biosecurity plan, a bundle of practical resources and a farm gate biosecurity sign to take home. The workshop is on Thursday 18 September 2025 from 9am to 1pm at Frost Pavilion, McDonald Avenue, Mount Barker WA 6324. It is free and aimed at pasture based poultry producers within driving distance of Albany.
