Take a stroll down memory lane while peeking into the future with this event. The quest for First Nations rights in Australia is a marathon, not a sprint, and the recent 2023 Voice to Parliament referendum felt more like a faceplant than a victory lap. But fear not, Indigenous leader and author Thomas Mayo is here with his latest book, "Always Was, Always Will Be: The Campaign for Justice and Recognition Continues," which serves as both a guide for action and a battle cry for those looking to bridge the gap.

And let's not forget historian Clare Wright, who wraps up her democracy trilogy with "Näku Dhäruk The Bark Petitions: How the people of Yirrkala changed the course of Australian Democracy." She'll take us back to 1963, when the Yol?u of Arnhem Land crafted the Yirrkala Bark Petitions, setting the land rights movement in motion. Come hang out with Thomas and Clare as they dive into these pivotal struggles and share what we can take away from them. Hosted by the ever-insightful Lorena Allam. It's all happening at the Albany Public Library, so mark your calendars for Thursday, 22 May 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm - and hey, it's free. What's not to like?
