So, if youre in Albany or close enough to drive over without too much hassle, theres this New Years Eve shindig called Kaya 2026 Picnic and Fireworks happening on December 31, 2025. Its basically the citys usual end-of-year bash getting a cultural makeover in team-up with arts group Breaksea, turning it into a laid-back family affair with songs, yarns from locals, some film bits, and of course, those classic fireworks to light up the night. Kaya just means hello in the local Menang-Noongar lingo, which is a nice nod to kicking off Albanys bicentenary year with a bunch of community vibes, artsy stuff, and reconciliation events for Western Australias big 200th milestone. Think of it as the warm-up act for a whole year of that sort of thing, minus the pressure of a formal invite.
The whole lot unfolds at Anzac Peace Park from 5pm right through to midnight, with fireworks popping off at the more family-friendly 9pm slot and then the grand finale at midnight, plus food stalls if youre peckish and plenty of entertainment to keep things humming. Its all free, so no excuses for missing out unless youre allergic to picnics or something equally daft. The spots at 9/21 Munster Avenue, Albany WA 6330.
