Frederick, a young lad who thought he was a pirate, is now out of his indentures. Or is he? This is the central question of , and the answer leads to a gloriously daft adventure full of Gilbert and Sullivan's most famous characters and tunes. Everyone learns something about duty, courage, and true love, but mostly they just sing catchy songs while running around in a state of cheerful confusion. It is a classic story given a contemporary setting, so expect pirates who might check their phones.
Tetrafide Productions, a new theatre company in Albany, is putting on this family friendly musical at the Albany Town Hall. They are using local cast, crew, and musicians, which means you get to cheer for people you might actually know. Tickets are a very reasonable $35. There are three performances: Friday 17 July 2026 at 7:30 pm, and Saturday 18 July at 2:00 pm and again at 7:30 pm. All shows run about two hours and twenty minutes with an interval, so you can grab a drink and discuss whether Frederick really is free of his apprenticeship.
